Way Too Long!!!

It has been entirely too long since I have posted...My apologies for those of you who were interested. After student teaching in the Fall of 2008, substituting for a semester in the Spring of 2009, and teaching summer school in 2009, I was unable to attain a high school math teaching job. Currently, I am working as an In School Suspension Supervisor at a high school. My self acclaimed job description entails disciplining, tutoring, and therapitizing(being a therapist) "misguided" teenagers. I enjoy the work actually, as it tends to expand my experience and abilities in reaching some of these lost students.

Some of my activities outside of the school have included assistant coaching varsity boys and girls soccer, tutoring students in math, volunteering at church by leading high school and college level small groups, and when I have a spare moment I try and work out. It has been an interesting ride as I have tried valiantly to attain a teaching position over the last year and a half. However, God is most definitely good and my needs have been taken care of daily. And for that, I am thankful!

Student Teaching is almost over...meaning I will finally graduate from college!!! My students seem to be learning something about math and also life based on the results I have witnessed thus far. I am volunteering at our church as a small group leader for the high school youth group. For Halloween, our church puts on a "Trunk or Treat" outreach where the small groups design a theme for the trunk of a car. Then they dish out candy to all the kids who come with their families. Anyway, we used my truck and turned the bed into a boxing ring. My high schoolers and I dressed up as Rocky. We blared the Rocky Soundtrack through my truck speakers and boxed the night away! What a blast!!!

This is my first blog to all of you out there...I am a couple of weeks away from student teaching high school math near my hometown. I will also be assistant coaching the men's varsity soccer team at my cooperating school, Huntley High School! If everything goes well I will become a full time teacher within the next six months to a year.
